The San Antonio Police Department will NEVER contact residents over their financial status or ask residents to pay a fee over the phone. Scammers are known to ask victims, over the phone, to purchase gift cards to pay a "fee" or "fine." Suspects may ask victims to pay using a payment app or via a gift card.
SAPD will never ask for personal identifying information over the phone-- Drivers License numbers, Social Security Numbers, etc.
Be mindful of who you may be speaking to and verify how the caller got your information.
Suspects are also known to "spoof" or disguise phone numbers to make the caller ID appear to be a legitimate phone number.
If you believe you are a victim of a scam, please call SAPD's non-emergency number 210-207-7273, to file a report.
