To Prepare an Emergency Kit, identify what you will need during an extreme heat event.
Emergency Supplies for a Basic Kit:
- One gallon of drinking water per person per day
- At least a three-day supply of shelf stable food
- Manual can opener (if kit contains canned food)
- Flashlight and extra batteries
- Battery-powered or hand crank radio
- Extra batteries and portable charger
- First aid kit
- Whistle to signal for help
- Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
- Prescription medications and eyeglasses
- Infant formula and diapers (if needed)
- Important family documents in a portable waterproof container and/or USB flash drive
- Cash
- Personal hygiene items and hand sanitizer
- Paper and pencil
- Books, games, puzzles, or other activities
- Pet food, water and supplies
- Complete change of clothing including a long-sleeved shirt, long sturdy pants
